The Baltic Sea Secretariat
The Baltic Sea Secretariat for Youth Affairs is supervised and monitored by the "Baltic Sea Working Group on Youth Affairs - WGYA".
The WGYA is officially recognized as one of the Working Groups of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). The WGYA consists of representatives from the ministries responsible for youth policy of all the Baltic Sea States.
Furthermore the Baltic Youth Forum and the Regional Youth Council of Schleswig-Holstein hold a seat in the Working Group. The latter is also the body responsible for the administrational tasks of the Secretariat
Aims & Priorities
The aim of the work of the Secretariat is to promote an active participation of young people in the development of democratic and pluralistic civil societies in the States of the Baltic Sea Region. These aims will be reached by:The Baltic Sea Secretariat for Youth Affairs serves as a centre or hub for information distribution,
- increasing youth mobility and youth exchange in the region,
- participation of young people in policy structures in the Baltic Sea Area, e.g. BSSSC, UBC, BSPC
- promoting youth issues as a cross-sectoral topic
- including disadvantaged young people in the activities of youth organisations and structures
- cooperating with other regional youth structures in the Barents, Nordic or Mediterranian Region
Activities
The Baltic Sea Secretariat for Youth Affairs serves as a centre or hub for information distribution,- it co-ordinates different forms of co-operation activities between youth policy structures, between governmental and non-governmental youth structures as well as youth projects,
- it organises seminars and conferences together with other actors in the region,
- it promotes youth issues in various frameworks and seeks to include young people in its work
- The priorities for the co-operation in the field of youth in the Baltic Sea Region are laid down in the Plan of Action of the Baltic Sea Youth Minister Conference in Visby, 1998.
